Autumn highlights in Obereggen in the Val d’Ega

Must-do’s in Obereggen for autumn

You may well already know that Obereggen is a winter paradise par excellence. But did you know that it can offer just as much fun in the autumn? There is a very special feeling in the air between Ega and Monte San Pietro in this, the most colourful of seasons! A good reason to take a closer look at the autumn highlights. Find out more here!

Say cheese!

The Hagneralm round tour is a bike ride of medium difficulty that lets you combine autumn joys with culinary delights. You deserve a treat, especially after the fairly steep climb up from the cable car in the centre of Nova Levante! Luckily the seasonal climate serves up fresh mountain air and warm sunshine here and, once you finally reach the flat section towards the Wolfsgrube, your previous efforts will be rewarded with a beautiful autumn panorama. The Hagner Alm hut is highly recommended by no less than Gault Millau: it offers cheese made on the premises and numerous other Alpine delicacies. You can then return via either the Hagner Valley or the Nigra and Costalunga passes. The brightly-hued autumn leaves will accompany you on your way back to Nova Levante!

At the foot of the Latemar

Starting from the top station of the panoramic Oberholz chairlift (open until 7 October), all of the renowned mountain ranges – namely the Ortler massif, the Ötztal and Stubai Alps, the Brenta and Adamello groups, the Zillertal and Sarntal Alps – can be seen along an easy circular hike through a fairytale forest, redolent of the adventures of Hansel and Gretel. Before you reach the well-known Mayrlalm hut after an hour or so, you might well encounter the last cows peacefully spending the final summer days up here on the pastures. Along the foot of the wall beneath the Latemar massif, with glorious views of the surrounding mountains, the path then leads back to Obereggen - in just two hours you can enjoy a gentle excursion that also allows you to relax and ruminate on the meadows along the way.

A burst of colour – from Obereggen to Lake Carezza

From Obereggen you can reach Lake Carezza, an all-year-round attraction, on a picturesque two-hour family walk. As the forest trail mostly runs through the Val d'Ega forests, you can totally immerse yourself in the autumn atmosphere – while the clearings along the path offer fantastic views of the Latemar and Catinaccio massifs, bathed in autumn light and seemingly close enough to touch! Once you reach Lake Carezza, make sure you walk all the way round in order to fully appreciate the wonderful spectacle of the sparkling blue and turquoise waters surrounded by the colourful backdrop of the woods.

Vitamins straight from the sun

Another spectacular walk is the panoramic trail around Nova Ponente. From the centre of Nova Ponente, stroll out of the village and savour the golden season; walk past the Hotel Pfösl and on to the Church of St. Helena and the farmhouse wine shop at Kreuzberg. This route is ideal for warming yourself in the autumn sun and topping up your vitamin D levels for the long winter months ahead.

Climb like a king

If you find conventional walks too boring, there is an alternative: the fixed-rope routes on the Santner Pass or the “Campanili del Latemar” will for example guarantee a truly majestic feeling as you climb between soaring towers with stunning autumn views!

Obereggen - the taste of golden autumn!

Autumn tastes of wild berries, herbs and mushrooms – truly delicious! But be quick if you want to experience the autumn delicacies of the Val d'Ega: the weeks of game and forest specialities end on 30 September! Here you can find all the participating establishments at a glance.

Psst…!

…and here, finally, is a tip for those in the know! Take a walk up to the “Lärchenwaldele”, the “Little Larch Forest”, to be found just above Obereggen. Designed as a sort of park for those seeking peace and quiet, at this time of year it is perfect for relaxing, surrounded by tall, golden-coloured larch trees and carved wooden sculptures.
