GSTC certification for the Eggental valley

The highest sustainability certification in the tourism industry

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council – GSTC for short – was founded in 2007 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the non-governmental organisation Rainforest Alliance and the United Nations Foundation. The organisation is committed to establishing basic standards and ensuring that these are comparable.

The GSTC’s criteria are divided into the following four basic pillars:

  1. Sustainable management
  2. Socio-economic sustainability
  3. Cultural sustainability
  4. Environmentally related sustainability

The certification process follows the accreditation standard that defines the methods, procedures and timing of the review so as to guarantee independence and credibility. An external auditor and the Certification Committee of Green Destination reviewed our sustainability report.

We work consistently and steadfastly in the Eggental valley: as of 2022, we are one of five Italian regions holding GSTC sustainability certification. The 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations were also taken into account when drawing up the criteria for GSTC certification. But the certification is not the only reason for the many sustainability offers and measures in the Eggental valley: if you grow up surrounded by nature, you learn to appreciate and value it. Our “Eggental 2030” agenda therefore also considers how the future should appear: we are currently working on numerous projects that will progressively realise this vision.

The international award is an important step in making the Eggental valley fit for the future. This, in precise terms, is our long-term goal: an Eggental whose integrity will be preserved for a long time to come – for the people and animals who live here and for all those who visit us as guests. We would like to thank everyone who will help us achieve this goal.
