A classic in the Dolomites framed by steep walls and towers with magnificent views. Relatively short via ferrata with difficult alpine sections requiring mountain experience.
The route starts from the top station of the König Laurin II cable car, near the Kölner Hut (2,337 m). From there, follow path [542] to the start of the via ferrata, secured ascent (300 m). The most difficult spot is the ice gully (ravine – beware of ice in early summer), after crossing which you reach the Santnerpass Hut (2,734 m).
The descent follows trail [542] to the Gartl Hut and Vajolet Hut, then continue on paths [541] and [550] over the Tschagerjoch back to the starting point.
Difficulty: moderate (B/C) – only with climbing equipment, surefootedness, and mountain experience required
Caution: old snowfields with slipping and breaking-through danger! Only for surefooted hikers with appropriate equipment.
