Varied hike on the Rittersteig from Steinegg to Kardaun with forests, vineyards, and views of Karneid Castle.
This varied hike combines nature, history, and little discoveries.
From Steinegg, the historic Rittersteig leads you past the
Rocket Treehouse right at the beginning – an original structure that delights not only children.
Then you immerse yourself in the tranquility of coniferous and deciduous forests, hiking on trails that sometimes require good surefootedness until you reach the first vineyards of the lower Eggental. Views open up repeatedly over the Eisack valley and the striking
Karneid Castle in the distance.
You hike through the small picturesque village of Karneid, passing Karneid Castle at some distance, and finally reach the village of Kardaun, where the gate to the provincial capital Bolzano opens.
The route can also be done in the opposite direction and is especially popular among uphill runners as a training route.
Please note: There are no dining options along the entire hike. At the starting point in Steinegg, various restaurants, cafés, and two village shops are available, as well as a café and two restaurants at the endpoint in Kardaun.
