The hike on the Zanggen – also known as Pala di Santa – is a real insider tip for all those seeking spectacular views, varied nature and an alpine mountain experience. From the starting point, the path leads through wide alpine meadows, open forests and scenic mountain ridges up to the summit, where a breathtaking panoramic view of the Dolomites opens up.
The Zanggen not only offers an impressive panorama but also the feeling of having reached the top – far away from everyday life, right in the heart of nature. After the summit experience, the circular route continues over a picturesque saddle and descends to a cozy alpine hut that invites you to rest. From there it goes back relaxed to the starting point.
This hike appeals to everyone who wants to actively experience the mountains while enjoying them at the same time – perfect for experienced hikers who appreciate variety, peace and great views.
The hike starts at the car park at Lavazèjoch (1,802 m). From here, follow hiking trail [574], which initially leads through open forest sections and wide alpine meadows. The path steadily ascends until you reach the summit of the Zanggen (2,458 m). At the top, you are rewarded with an impressive panoramic view of the Dolomites and the Eggental valley.
From the summit, descend on the backside towards the Reiterjoch (Passo di Pampeago). Once at the pass, switch to trail [9], which gently slopes down to the Daiano alpine hut – an ideal place for a cozy stop.
From the hut, take trail [11] back to the car park at Lavazèjoch, the starting point of the route.
