The colorful Karer See in the Eggental is the famous fairy-tale lake of the Dolomites, where, according to legend, a water nymph lives and in whose crystal-clear water the Rosengarten and Latemar are reflected. Karer See changes its color, which is why it is also called Lec de Ergobando - Rainbow Lake. Karer See is 300 m long and 140 m wide and lies below the Latemar massif at the edge of the Latemar forest at 1,520 m in the Eggental. It is a protected natural monument and is fed by underground springs from the Latemar, so both its size and depth are highly dependent on the season and weather - the greatest depth of Karer See was recorded at 22 m.
