The world of stars at Collepietra
Sun, moon & stars in the Val d’Ega
Reaching for the stars
The backdrop couldn’t be more beautiful: the first South Tyrolean star village is located at the gates to the Dolomites in the municipality of Cornedo. Stargazers can visit both an astronomical and a solar observatory as well as the 7-km “planetary trail”. One of the world’s most modern planetariums is also located at the very heart of the star village of San Valentino in Campo.

A glance into infinity
The Max Valier Observatory, featuring a 6-metre cupola with a Cassegrain reflector telescope, offers a glance into infinity – no fewer than 19 million celestial bodies. The Peter Anich Solar Observatory offers interesting facts about the sun, while the “planetary trail” guides astronomy enthusiasts (and others!) from planet to planet through our solar system – on a scale of 1:1 billion, across meadows, through forests and biotopes.
Public guided tours of the “Max Valier” observatory: every Thursday evening throughout the year when skies are clear. Bookings requested: info@planetarium.bz.it or ph. +39 0471 61 00 20

On a mission to the stars
South Tyrol’s Planetarium is located right on the pretty village square of San Valentino in Campo. Regardless of the time or weather, this cosmos simulator offers visitors a realistic depiction of the starry skies and the course of the celestial bodies – the resolution of some 12 million pixels on its 8-metre diameter cupola is second to none. The 55 comfortable seats give visitors the feeling of being in a spaceship: 3D technology lets space travellers float among the stars!
