Star Village steinegg And gummer

Steinegg/Collepietra and Gummer/San Valentino in Campo in South Tyrol’s Eggental valley

The star villages in the Dolomites

Located at 820 metres a.s.l., Steinegg lies much further down in the valley than its neighbouring villages in the Eggental valley – and yet it is definitely closest to the heavens!

As part of the municipality of Karneid/Cornedo, the villages of Steinegg and the little hamlet of Gummer represent Europe’s first star village: according to Astronomitaly, in fact, it offers one of the most beautiful starry skies to be seen throughout Italy! An observatory, a solar observatory, a planetarium, a “planetary trail”, a “trail of the stars” all await visitors here, not to mention full-moon events and other activities with astronomy themes – such as informative night hikes, a virtual-reality corner or a rocket workshop. But Steinegg has another – cultural – ace up its sleeve: Karneid Castle, dating from the 11th century, and the Steinegg museum are definitely worth a visit, while the earth pyramids are another stunning attraction in the area’s natural surroundings. The comfortable accommodation – ranging from hotels with space-themed rooms to holiday apartments – make the perfect base for enjoying new and exciting experiences in and around Steinegg each day: amidst the surrounding skiing and hiking areas, the cultural attractions, the nearby regional capital of Bolzano/Bozen and the wonders of nature, gathering beautiful holiday memories is easy!
