Welschnofen/Nova Levante in South Tyrol’s Eggental Valley

In the legendary realm of King Laurin

Endless forests as far as the eye can see. Pale rocks reaching for the clouds. A mystical charm that can only be found in the Dolomites shrouds the village of Welschnofen in the Eggental valley…

From Welschnofen (1,182 metres a.s.l.) to the Karerpass (1,752 m), the unique nature of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site between the Rosengarten and Latemar massifs can be explored on two legs, two wheels – or on skis, once winter comes to the Eggental valley and the mountain slopes turn into the fantastic Carezza family ski area. And, in summer, there are walking trails, fixed-rope routes, mountain tours, the Carezza bike trail and the bike park awaiting those who just can’t get enough of active adventure! Nor is there any lack of shops, restaurants or bars, including a bakery and a supermarket, a friendly village bar and a gourmet restaurant, while the regional capital of Bolzano/Bozen is just a stone’s throw away. Active, relaxing or cultural holidays – to be combined just as the fancy takes you. For accommodation there are hotels, guesthouses, holiday apartments, private landlords or farmstays – not to mention mountains of hospitality!

Welschnofen: the facts

  • The cable car starts right from the centre of Welschnofen and takes you up to the Rosengarten massif, the legendary realm of King Laurin! What are you waiting for?
  • The “Talt”, at 1,756 metres in height, is the highest forested hill in Europe. You can reach it from Welschnofen either by bike or on foot!
  • The steeple of Welschnofen’s parish church is bright red in colour: the type of stone used was mined in the Latemar massif until the 1930s.
