Up to Lake Carezza in the Dolomites

If you are in the Val d’Ega or on holiday near Bolzano, a visit to the beautiful Lake Carezza, which reflects the Catinaccio and Latemar mountain ranges in the Dolomites, is truly a must! The “Rainbow Lake of the Dolomites” is located in the little village of Carezza, directly below the Costalunga Pass and just above Nova Levante – and you don’t even have to take the car to get there: the lake can easily be reached on foot, by mountain bike, by bus or by lift – from whichever direction you choose!

What you should know...

Can I also visit Lake Carezza in winter?

 Lake Carezza is accessible all year round. In winter, the visitor centre, pedestrian subway and toilets are open from 09.00 am - 5.00 pm. The car park and the circular walk around Lake Carezza are accessible. 

How do I reach Lake Carezza by public transport?

Lake Carezza is easily and comfortably accessible by public transport.
The Eggental Guest Pass, value cards and Mobilcards are valid - single tickets and value cards can be purchased directly on board.

Can I travel to Lake Carezza free of charge with the Guest Pass Eggental?

Yes. 
Exclusively for all guests of the member establishments of the Val d'Ega tourist associations, there is the Guest Pass Val d'Ega, with which they can use public transport free of charge and without restriction during their stay - in Val d'Ega, throughout South Tyrol and of course to Lake Carezza! 

How do I reach the Karer See lake with the lifts (summer)?

You can comfortably start from Welschnofen with the cable car, continue with the new cable car König Laurin I to the middle station, then float with the chair lift Tschein to the Moseralm and then hike via trail no. 16 and trail no. 6 over the suspension bridge to the Lake Carezza in just a few minutes on foot.

Are the lifts to Lake Carezza included in the Mountain Pass?

Yes.
Ride on 3 days within 7 or on 5 days within 7 (from first rating) without restrictions on 18 lifts in the heart of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage on the Rosengarten, Latemar and on the Schlern: also the lifts to the Lake Carezza are included.

Could coaches reach Lake Carezza?

Yes, coaches can reach Lake Carezza at any time. However, there is limited parking for coaches. Find out before you arrive.  

Are there public toilets?

There are free toilets in the visitor centre subway.

Why the fencing around Lake Carezza must not be crossed?

Lake Carezza is a protected natural monument and in order to preserve and protect its beauty for a long time, we ask you not to exceed the protection limits around Lake Carezza and to treat nature with respect. As the Lake Careza is a protected nature reserve, bathing and swimming in it is also strictly prohibited.  

Is Lake Carezza accessible without barriers?

There are a total of 4 reserved parking spaces for people with disabilities at the Lake Carezza car park. 
At the lake there is a visitor centre with refreshment facilities and a subway through which visitors can reach the lake barrier-free. The viewing platform at Lake Carezza and the circular path around the lake are also accessible without barriers. 

Are there any refreshment stops on site or in the surrounding area?

The visitor centre of Lake Carezza offers two bistros where hungry explorers can fortify themselves.
Fancy some traditional South Tyrolean cuisine? In Carezza, a number of restaurants and huts tempt you to enjoy a hearty snack. Here you can find all the restaurants and huts in the area!  

Why does the water level of the lake change?

Lake Carezza is fed by underground springs from the Latemar mountain range, which is why both its size and depth are highly seasonal and weather-dependent - the greatest depth of Lake Carezza has been recorded at 22 m.

Are there opening hours for Lake Carezza and the visitor centre?

Lake Carezza is accessible around the clock. The visitor centre, the pedestrian subway and the toilets are open daily from 09.00 am - 7.00 pm.

Where is parking available and under what conditions?

When you arrive at Lake Carezza, you will find three parking options. 
Car park 1 is located directly at Lake Carezza and is subject to a fee. 

A little further away from the lake there are 2 further parking possibilities, which are free of charge for cars.
