Obereggen in South Tyrol’s Eggental Valley

At the source of adventure at the foot of the Latemar

Located at 1,550 metres a.s.l. in the municipality of Deutschnofen, Obereggen has secured a spot in the front row below the Latemar massif. The walking trails, the bike tours and the Obereggen ski area (with 48 km of pistes and one of Italy’s best snowparks, a mecca for winter sports fans) right outside the door of your hotel, guesthouse or holiday apartment are really just the icing on the Dolomites holiday cake. From a morning brunch in the Oberholz Alpine Hut, a jewel of eco-sustainable architecture, to an aperitif at the end of the day or night skiing at LOOX - The Alpine Club. The Latemar and the Latemarium, the evergreen coniferous forests, the mountain huts for a tasty break, the proximity to Bolzano/Bozen, the nearby regional capital – all at the very heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, mean there are almost unlimited skiing, hiking and biking adventures in Obereggen.

Obereggen: the facts

  • There is a leaning tower here, just like that in Pisa: a crooked 40-metre-high rock formation up in the Latemar Dolomites – accessible on foot from Obereggen!
  • The Latemarium, the hiking area round the Latemar massif, includes adventure trails, fascinating installations, a leisure programme and spectacular views.
  • The valley station of the Obereggen ski area is located... in Obereggen, of course, right in the middle of the action. Skiing, tobogganing, snowboarding and much more besides – a day on the slopes is an essential part of any holiday programme!
