Why a holiday in the Eggental valley is especially sustainable

Sustainable holidays in the Eggental valley

Together on a green mission

As you may know, the issue of sustainability is of great concern to us and it therefore runs like a green thread through all of our ideas, initiatives and events. The natural world of the Eggental valley is a vital and beneficial habitat for plants, animals and for humans too. And this is exactly what you should sense while on holiday! The destination criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) are important key points for us: the GSTC issues a sustainability certification, the highest of its kind in the tourism sector. This is for us a first milestone in measurably developing the region towards sustainability. Our offers are accordingly designed to take account of the impact on Profit, Planet and People, while at the same time striving to achieve the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

You can help us in this important mission to serve nature by making use of soft mobility alternatives, leaving your car at home and exploring the Dolomites instead by bike, bus, ski lift, etc., discovering and enjoying local products – and enjoying our Green Events! This way we can set clear, green markers TOGETHER that, along with the GSTC certification, represent important guarantees for a sustainable holiday experience!

Did you know that in the Eggental valley...

  • ... five hydropower plants supply over 5,000 households and businesses with CO₂-free green electricity?
  • ... in addition, two district heating plants fed with biomass from the forests of Val d'Ega supply more than 500 households and businesses, thus saving around 1.2 million liters of heating oil per year?
  • ... the Carezza ski resort and four hotels have joined the association "Turn to zero"? They measure their CO₂ footprint annually and try to reduce or offset it as far as possible.
  • ... the Obereggen ski area has been operating a certified environmental management system for 16 years and, for example, sows its own seed mix when working on the slopes in order to maintain the biodiversity of the meadows?
  • ... the Oberholz mountain hut at 2,096 m is heated exclusively with geothermal energy?
