The Sustainability Label South Tyrol is based on the criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), which were developed to provide a uniform understanding of sustainable tourism.
These criteria can be divided into four different areas:
The sustainability label confirms, through defined criteria and regular audits, the implementation of measures in the areas of management, socio-economic sustainability, culture and the environment. This makes the progress achieved transparent and understandable for guests, businesses and interested stakeholders. Because sustainability is a long-term path, there are three levels of the label, which are checked by an audit. For each level, different criteria have to be fulfilled, whereby the third and highest level corresponds to the GSTC certification and is thus internationally recognized.
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council – GSTC for short – was founded in 2007 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the non-governmental organisation Rainforest Alliance and the United Nations Foundation. The organisation is committed to establishing basic standards and ensuring that these are comparable.
The GSTC’s criteria are divided into the following four basic pillars:
The certification process follows the accreditation standard that defines the methods, procedures and timing of the review so as to guarantee independence and credibility. An external auditor and the Certification Committee of Green Destination reviewed our sustainability report.
As part of the GSTC certification process, measures and projects in Eggental are regularly reviewed and continuously improved. The certification criteria also take into account the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The certification confirms measures and projects that Eggental has been implementing for several years. This includes initiatives in the areas of mobility, local value creation, nature conservation and awareness raising. Through the “Eggental 2030” strategy, these measures are coordinated and further developed together with regional partners.
The international certification is an important milestone within the long-term “Eggental 2030” strategy and supports the continuous development of the destination. The aim is to preserve the natural, cultural and economic foundations of Eggental in the long term and to develop them responsibly – for the people who live and work here, as well as for those who choose Eggental as their holiday destination.

Holders of the Mountain Pass can use 17 lifts in the heart of the Rosengarten, Latemar and Schlern/Sciliar any three or five days within a period of seven consecutive days.
