The circular hike from Karer See to Franzin Alm offers a perfect mix of impressive natural landscapes, historical places, and culinary delights. Through dense forests and with constant views of the imposing rock faces of the Rosengarten, the route leads to the cozy Franzin Alm. A special highlight is the Kaiserstein, named after Empress Elisabeth "Sissi".
Opportunities for refreshments:
This varied circular hike starts at Karer See (1550 m), one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Dolomites. From the parking lot, the path leads over a suspension bridge onto the forest path [6], which leads to the historic grain mill below the Rosengarten. Then follow path [9] to Moseralm (1576 m) and gently ascend to the Kaiserstein parking lot (1741 m) on the Niger road. From there, trail [6C] leads directly to Franzin Alm, which invites you to linger and enjoy regional delicacies in an idyllic setting. Well strengthened, a short section along the Niger road follows towards Karer Pass. Afterwards, it goes through the Karersee settlement back to the starting point. The return route initially leads over König-Laurin-Straße, then along Rotwandstraße and Christomannosstraße. Below the Angerle Alm riding center, it goes over the picturesque Schönblickweg and trail [6] back to Karer See.
Tip: Those who follow trail [9B] for about 10 minutes from the Kaiserstein parking lot will reach the impressive Kaiserstein (1801 m). The imposing rock block was named after Empress Elisabeth "Sissi", who once visited this place. Today a wooden staircase leads up from where a fantastic view offers itself – the rock is also a popular spot for climbing enthusiasts.
