Description

The task of the "Schützen" in the earlier centuries was basically the armed defence of the country against military enemies who threatened the independence and the special freedoms of the hereditary crown land of Tyrol.
The task of the "Schützen" today is to defend Tyrolean identity whenever it is threatened. Identity is defined as the language, culture, customs, sense of justice, beliefs, value system and generally lived norms of behaviour of people in a certain area.
