This varied circular hike around Steinegg combines nature, small discoveries and a rewarding stop for local delights.
Right at the beginning you follow the Rittersteig Trail and pass by the quirky Rocket Treehouse– a real eye-catcher that fascinates not only children. If you like, you can also take a short detour to the cave dwelling Mortner Gufl, just 15 minutes off the main route, mysteriously built into the rock.
The trail then leads mostly through forests before climbing a little more steeply on trail [11] to the Wiedenhof farm inn. Here you can enjoy a cosy stop with regional specialities, and children will love the small petting zoo.
Refreshed, you continue gently along trail [8] back to Steinegg|Collepietra, where the loop closes. A hike that perfectly combines nature, history and South Tyrolean pleasures.
Refreshment options:
at Wiedenhof after 6.2 km (approx. 2.5 hours) from Steinegg|Collepietra via the Rittersteig trail
at the starting and finishing point in the village of Steinegg|Collepietra, you’ll find two village shops and several places to stop:
Gasthof Pizzeria Unterwirt
Hotel Berghang
Hotel Steineggerhof
The route starts in Steinegg|Collepietra at the village square (820 m) in front of Café Christl. From here, follow trail [2/Rittersteig] past the Lex Market. After about 20–30 minutes, you’ll reach the striking wooden rocket treehouse on the left-hand side of the path – a true eye-catcher that delights both children and adults.
Continuing along trail [2/Rittersteig], you pass the Ebenhof farm. At the junction towards the Mortner farm, stay on the trail Rittersteig/trail Alpine Pearls. If you fancy a short detour, you can follow trail [2] to the mysterious dwelling cave Mortner Gufl (approx. 15 minutes extra each way) and after return to the main route.
The path then leads you through quiet forests and along some narrow tracks towards Karneid|Cornedo. Just above the village, leave the trail Rittersteig/trail Alpine Pearls and turn left onto trail [11], which climbs more steeply up to the Wiedenhof farm inn. Here, a cosy break awaits you – with regional delicacies and a small petting zoo for children.
Recharged, you make your way back: follow the easy trail [8] back to Steinegg|Collepietra, where the loop closes again at the village square.
