Historic walking path in the village of Karersee tracing Sissi's footsteps: The Elisabeth Promenade invites you to a leisurely walk through idyllic landscapes with a monument.

In August 1897, Empress Elisabeth of Austria, better known as Sissi, spent an extended recuperation stay at the traditional Grand Hotel Karersee. During her stay, she undertook numerous excursions into the idyllic surroundings – one of which led her along the very path that now bears her name: the Elisabeth Promenade. This historic walking path with a monument commemorates the Empress's closeness to nature and love of hiking and still invites a leisurely walk through the impressive landscape around Karersee today.

Directions

This leisurely hike begins in Karersee at the Paolina valley station parking lot. From there, the path follows trail [6], passing the idyllic St. Josef Chapel and the Lake & River restaurant, to the Karersee grain mill. Here, turn left and continue along trail [6] along Schönblickstraße, passing charming old farmhouses. At Sohler Hof, turn left onto the narrow forest path [3], which gently leads through the forest to a small clearing. There is the Elisabeth monument, commemorating Empress Elisabeth's visit in 1897. The return is along the same route. Along the way, enjoy impressive views of the former Grand Hotel Karersee where the Empress once stayed. For a cozy stop, Gasthof Meierei or Ladritscher Hof invite you.
