Between Alpine fare and gourmet cuisine

A mountain hut with a difference

Oberholz: the name itself hints that this is no ordinary mountain hut. And in fact Oberholz is a true architectural masterpiece in the very heart of the Obereggen hiking and skiing area. You could just as well call it the centre of Obereggen! It is after all the starting point for countless walking paths and of the popular Oberholz piste, with the Oberholz lift running more or less straight to the hut.

A harmonious contradiction

The artfully modern structure of the building, with its enormous glass fronts facing the magnificent mountain ridge on the horizon, literally breathes old South Tyrolean tradition. Architectural art amidst the mountains; traditional cuisine in light and airy rooms of contemporary design; and just one step away is the large sun terrace to show you that you are right in the midst of the Dolomites, of nature, of South Tyrol.

Between tradition and innovation

The mountain hut with its three “Stuben” (snug areas), lounge, bar and terrace stands at an altitude of 2,096 metres above sea level. In his kitchen, chef Franz conjures up culinary delights from regional and seasonal products - dishes that also represent a perfect balance between tradition and innovation. Here you can enjoy a South Tyrolean speck platter and beef tartare of pasture-fed oxen served with wholemeal bread from the Val d’Ega and Alpine herb butter; pasta, locally produced in Predazzo; Viennese veal escalopes and grilled “bistecca alla fiorentina” (a large porterhouse steak), or mountain lamb chops served with a thyme sauce. Not to mention his homemade desserts: cakes and apple strudel, creamy curd foam or mountain pine crème brûlée. A food festival for all the senses – and for the heart.

Active all-round pleasure in the Dolomites

Whether the walking, biking, tobogganing or skiing is done before or after – that’s entirely up to the guest! Soaring upwards on the lift then continuing on foot to the Latemar massif; or hiking up from the valley station all the way to the hut then taking the lift back down. There is no shortage of ways to keep active in Obereggen!

By the way, just as in the rest of the Obereggen ski and hiking area, considerable attention is also paid to energy efficiency at the Oberholz hut, which is heated with geothermal energy!

Those exploring the Dolomites round the Catinaccio and Latemar massifs should definitely allow for a visit to the Oberholz hut!
