Dreaming of a “Green” Winter!

Is it possible to go skiing on holiday and still do your bit to protect the environment? Absolutely! The best example of this green approach to winter sports can be found in the resort of Carezza, the first ski resort in the province of Alto Adige to become a member of the Climate Neutral Alliance. That makes Carezza without a doubt one of the most eco-friendly ski resorts in the region. After all, a landscape as beautiful and precious as the Dolomites must be protected for future generations.

Did you know that …

  1. … the snow you ski on in Carezza is much more ecologically effective today than it was just a few years ago? Custom planning and intelligent management of the snow-making facilities ensure that as soon as the temperature falls to between -10 and -15 °C in early winter the entire resort is covered with snow in just 80 hours. This system not only uses less water and electricity but also means skiers and snowboarders can enjoy top conditions on the slopes all the way through until the end of March.

  2.  … Georg Eisath, the founder of TechnoAlpin, is always on the lookout for new ways to save energy during the snow-making and piste-grooming process? His technical expertise plays a key role in making Carezza such an eco-friendly resort.

  3.  … we have managed to cut an hour off the time it takes to groom the pistes in the evenings thanks to state-of-the-art devices to measure snow depth and the use of digital GPS trackers? That means our snow groomers use 25% less fuel than in the past.

  4.  … the water used to make artificial snow comes from our own two reservoirs. They are among the largest, most modern and most environmentally friendly in the Alto Adige province.

  5.  … the lifts are sometimes turned off during quiet periods? This energy-saving measure contributes to the resort’s overall environmental balance.

  6.  … Carezza’s events are part of the Green Events initiative with lots of great ideas to minimise waste and maximising recycling such as using digital communication instead of printing out documents and serving food with reusable cutlery.

Nestling in the heart of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site, the environmentally friendly resort of Carezza, at the foot of the towering Catinaccio and Sciliar mountain ranges, provides skiers and snowboarders with a place where they can enjoy fine skiing, a warm welcome and delicious local food while enjoying “green” holidays in the middle of a glistening white winter wonderland.
