This varied circular hike around Steinegg combines nature experience, small discoveries, and a pleasurable stop.
Right at the beginning, you hike along the Rittersteig and pass the original rocket treehouse – an eye-catcher that fascinates not only children. Those interested can also take a detour to the living cave Mortner Gufl which is only 15 minutes away from the main route and mysteriously built into the rock.
Then you walk mainly through forests until you ascend a bit steeper on path [11] to the Wiedenhof farm tavern. Here you can enjoy not only a cozy stop with regional delicacies but also a small petting zoo – ideal for families.
Refreshed, you walk back comfortably on path [8] to Steinegg, where the loop closes. A route perfectly combining nature, history, and South Tyrolean enjoyment.
Possibilities to stop and eat:
The route starts in Steinegg at the village square (820 m) in front of Café Christl. From here you follow the hiking path [2/Rittersteig] past the Lex Market. After about 20 to 30 minutes you reach the striking wooden rocket treehouse standing on the left side of the path – a special eye-catcher that delights both young and old.
Continuing along path [2/Rittersteig] you pass Ebenhof. At the fork to Mortner Hof, you stay on the Rittersteig or Perlenweg. Those interested in a small detour can follow path [2] to the mysterious living cave Mortner Gufl (approx. 15 minutes extra per direction) and then return to the main route.
The path leads you through quiet forests and partly narrow trails towards Karneid. Above the village, you no longer follow the Rittersteig/Perlenweg but turn left onto path [11], which takes you somewhat steeper up to the Wiedenhof farm tavern. A cozy rest is worthwhile here – with regional delicacies and a small petting zoo for children.
Refreshed, you take the return journey: You hike back to Steinegg via the comfortable hiking path [8], where the loop closes again at the village square.
