The founding of the Deutschnofen music band was recorded in the chronicle written by Hans Gibitz. He called his records oral traditions, because they were, at least for the first decades, memories of his father, who was one of the first musicians.

The manuscript includes a detailed account of the history of the Musikkapelle from 1868 to 1914, and annual reports, accounts, statutes and various membership directories from later times have survived.

In 1952 Gibitz published the article "Zur Geschichte der Musikkapelle Deutschnofen" in "Volksmusik". According to this article, the band was founded in 1868 by the teacher's son PRANTNER Anton, who was one of the best organ players in South Tyrol at the time. About 30 music-loving young men came forward, with whom Prantner immediately undertook a rigorous pre-training, such as learning some elementary musical knowledge, reading music, etc. The band was founded in 1868 by the son of a teacher, Anton Prantner, who was then the best organist in South Tyrol.

When the founder Prantner moved to Predazzo as organist, the farmer Leonhard PLATTNER took over the direction of the chapel. In 1875 the direction was taken over by the teacher Franz GRAF, who led it uninterruptedly until 1900 and later passed the office on to his son Heinrich Graf.

In 1912 Johann PFEIFER was appointed as the new Kapellmeister, replaced in 1926 by Matthias Saltuari, and for political reasons reinstated in 1936 (Saltuari had to resign). In the years 1941 to 1945, the activities of the band were limited to participation in honours for the fallen.

Under the direction of Kapellmeister Peter v. Fäckl, the Deutschnofen Musikkapelle was restored to its former strength in 1946 and took part in various competitions until the mid-1950s (also under the direction of Josef Saltuari from 1952).

In 1957 the band was taken over by Hans Simmerle and continued until 1977. His successor Gottfried Mair served as leader until 1988.
