This varied circular hike combines the most beautiful nature and landscape highlights around the village of Lake Carezza and the imposing Latemar. Right at the beginning, the path leads past the historic Grand Hotel, with a wonderful view of the rugged Latemar massif. A suspension bridge, built in 2018, crosses a small gorge and leads to the turquoise-blue Lake Carezza. The emerald green natural monument is famous not only for its intense colors but also for the legend of the water nymph, which gives the lake a mysterious aura. The path continues on pleasant trails to the Latemar rock labyrinth – a fascinating area of bizarre rock formations, hidden passages, and ancient hand-carved steps (using hands is necessary in places). The Latemar meadows finally open up an impressive panorama of the Rosengarten. Here, the Latmor Alm and the so-called "mountain cinema" invite you to rest and marvel. The return route leads comfortably back over the Karerpass to the starting point – a hike full of variety and views.
Places to eat:
The route starts at the Paolina parking lot. First, follow the signposted path [6] towards Lake Carezza. Over the suspension bridge built in 2018, you reach the parking lot of Lake Carezza, cross it, and access the lake via an underpass. Walking along the right shore of the lake, you reach hiking trail [11]. Follow this uphill to Mitterleger (1839 m). There you turn onto the labyrinth trail path [20] that leads through the impressive rock labyrinth. At the intersection with path [18], keep right towards Latemar saddle. After a steep ascent, you reach path [18A], which runs flat over a picturesque meadow. After a short further ascent, you reach the Latemar meadows and the Eggental mountain cinema (1861 m), offering a splendid panoramic view of the Rosengarten and the Rotwand. Directly after the mountain cinema, the Latmor Alm invites you to a cozy break – ideal for a well-deserved rest with regional specialties and a magnificent view of the Dolomites. Then follow path [17] down to the Karerpass. From Karerpass, path [6] leads left back to the starting point at the Paolina parking lot.
